Suspense, suspense! That is most definitely Hitchcock's greatest tool, and he shows his extreme understanding of it undeniably well in this film. Some say this is Hitchcock's crowning achievement.
While I disagree, I do think this is his most influential and important film. Anthony Perkins is absolutely amazing as Norman Bates, and my favorite performance committed to film. He's absolutely mesmerizing while on screen.
He seems like a causal guy, but then he can turn to sinister. Especially when we know his secret, but the other characters are blissfully ignorant. The tension tears at you until the thrilling finale.
