Review of Psycho (1960) by Ethan B — 15 Oct 2017
Psycho is a classic black and white film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, I watched this after watching Bates Motel which is a great series that I recommend you go watch even if you have never seen this film. Because of this I knew some things about the character of Norman that the people who watched it when it first came out would not know. Also the story is so well known it does not have the same sort of surprise that it would have done back then. However, I did not feel that this changed how much I enjoyed the film at all. The film has a rather slow pacing with a lot of scenes that are just two people talking for a long time however these were never boring to me as they never talked about anything irrelevant to the plot. If you are looking for a film that will scare you all the way through with jump-scares this is not the film for you, there are plenty of murders and those scenes are not that scary. It is more of a thriller, it is only disturbing once you know what has happened and you look back on the film afterwards. I was talking to my sister during the film and we both agreed that the casting was spot on for the sister as it looks exactly like her, we even thought it was her at the first glance. Watching this film has also made me appreciate Freddie Highmore in Bates Motel for his portrayal Norman Bates as it is so spot on with, he even looks like a younger version of Anthony Perkins.
Overall I give Psycho 4 stars out of 5.
