Review of P.S. I Love You (2007) by Heather B — 23 Nov 2011
I must have not paid attention when I saw the trailer and the interviews for this film when it came out, because it was different from what I was expecting. OK, so it wasn't perfect and I kept thinking what a good vehicle this might have been for, say, Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman if it had been made about 10 years ago with a Nora Ephron screenplay.
It would have been infinitely better than the awful movie in which they starred. But such is life and instead we get Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler and some lovely ups and downs. The guy who plays Denny in GREY'S ANATOMY is in this.
He isn't half as good here and his accent isn't great. Lisa Kudrow, on the other hand, is great. She seems to have carved a nice little niche for herself in supporting roles and she is delightful here.
It's a great movie to have on a chilly night when you're is cuddling under the duvet with someone you love. It's not "great". It's not challenging. It might make a good musical someday.
It's based on a novel, so there might be more to the story than meets the eye. Oh, and I really want to watch FOR THE BOYS again now after hearing the cover version of the song after which the movie is named in the film.
I love FOR THE BOYS.
