Review of P.S. I Love You (2007) by Desiree F — 15 Nov 2010
An overly romantic comedy about a death of a loved one? Riiight... The husband dies of brain tumour but leaves posthumous messages for his widow. Unnecessary comedy follows with some pathetic supporting characters. Here and there some soapy romance scenes are inserted.
It seems that the movie is afraid of its own subject and tries so hard to cover it up with humour and romance so that the audience wouldn't be just crying their hearts out. But who wants to laugh at something like this? The message seems to be "so, your husband died, get over it." The pressure for making Holly stop the grieving and move on was massive from every direction. And her so called friends were very hilarious personalities and acting supportive and all...
There were some okay scenes, somewhere lost in the middle of shallow trash. Gerard Butler didn't particularly annoy me, although his character was quite too obviously written for the female audience. And the film is, once again, too lenghty.
