Review of P.S. I Love You (2007) by Patrick L — 03 Jan 2013
P.S. I Love You didnt appear to be a good film based on its deleted scenes and my first attempt to watch it was while tired but watching it now, despite what appeared to be a cheesy fight and make-up scenario, the film proved a bold look at love and loss, coping with missing the lover who has died and a unique attempt to transcend death, if briefly, for the sake of the lover left behind.
I was initially turned off by the deleted scenes and the first few minutes etc., I was tired at first viewing and so I turned it off. Watching the film all the way through, I found that despite the awkward or weird argument and kiss/make up scene I did really enjoy the film and its original premise of showing a man transcending death for the sake of the woman he loved dearly.
Lisa Kudrow is rather unlikeable in her character as a rather scheming and shallow woman on the make. Hilary Swank is a standout as the grieving woman...Kathy Bates is great as the mom who tries to reach out to her...and Gerard Butler is charming as the Irish rogue who wins her heart and keeps it despite his rather fumbling and caddish ways. 10/10.
