Review of Prozac Nation (2003) by Steven P — 04 Apr 2010
This is not a movie that takes its subject matter lightly, nor should it be. This is one of the most beautifully-adapted and well-acted movies I have seen in quite some time, as this marks when we begin to see Christina Ricci as less of "that pipsqueak chick from Casper" and more of a real, mature actress that can play serious roles.
The writing and camera work are a masterful portrayal of the protagonist's descent into madness, depression, substance abuse, therapy, and finally a Prozac prescription, a treatment shared by over 300 million people every year, including myself.
It is a pity that we may see fewer movies that can portray this condition so well, if any at all, mostly in light of the closure of Miramax at the start of this year.
