Review of Prozac Nation (2003) by Elaine M — 03 Feb 2009
Follows young but severely troubled aspiring writer Elizabeth Wurtzel, as she spirals into a self-destructive manic depression and slowly watches her life fall down around her. In truth, 'Prozac Nation' doesn't have much that any other drama about depression has- it's an interesting subject, with some interesting characters, but altogether it's fairly slow and it's been done before.
Obviously what the others don't have is an unbelievably convincing performance from the perfect Christina Ricci, who on her own saves the film from being extremely monotonal and dull. It still is amongst the least memorable of Ricci's films, but it's definitely worth seeing.
