Review of Prospect (2018) by Scienceadvisor — 25 Feb 2019
The only standout is Pascal which the whole film is built around. Unfortunately the story is as weak as the props, and the acting of the rest of the cast. The directing relies entirely on scenery to convey the sense of the alien world, and that amounts to nothing more than a CG overlay of spores over a mundane forest.
The entire concept of the "prospecting" is as repulsive as everyone carrying it out. The world building is fine, but without a story to give it meaning, just tropes, this space western was pretty boring.
I am sure this was done with a shoe-string budget, but just means it had to work with what it had, just as previous films (Blair Witch) have done. Prospect is fine if you have time to waste, but little else.
