Review of Proof (1991) by Danielle M — 03 Jan 2011
Well-acted and wonderfully directed; I've only read the original play... never seen it performed live... so I can't say how the film compares to what was hailed as a excellent stage production, but I really loved this. Being an Anthnony Hopkins fan, I'm not sure why I never got around to seeing this before, but I'm so glad that I finally did.
The story takes place just after the death of a brilliant mathematician who was plagued in later years by schizophrenia... and how both his life and death affect the daughter who cares for him in the last years and who also shares some of his genius... and possibly a bit of his instability.
Touching... poignant... a lesson in love and trust and fear... and family...
