Review of Proof (1991) by Cody H — 04 Dec 2011
Several months ago I saw Proof in its original play format and thought it was absolutely brilliant-- a fascinating plot, dynamic characters, with a perfect combination of humor and tragedy. I loved that it was all set on the front porch of the house and had 4 characters.
It did so much with so little. When I stumbled upon the film version at the local library, I got excited. When I saw who was in it, I got really excited. It was a good movie. It really liked the ways they comfortably adapted the play into film, and though it lost some of the beautiful simplicity that I adored about the play, it really helped bring the piece to life in to a more tangible real world setting.
The actors were well cast, though there were moments that the emotions of the moment weren't brought to light well enough, but that wasn't too predominant. I really liked that the play stayed so close to the script, following a majority of it word-for-word (according to my memory), with the exception of most of the profanity.
It's a good movie. Watch it.
