Review of Promised Land (2012) by Kyle A — 06 Jan 2013
Gus Van Sant's latest film follows his more mainstream works in structure, but has a fascinating premise, twist, and makes you leave the theater asking questions instead of providing all of the answers for you.
The script has a few run-of-the-mill character types, and a few really strong ones, and gives the actors great dialogue to work with. Frances McDormand goes highly unnoticed for her supporting role in "Promised Land", playing a role that feels complicated underneath the film's surface.
"Promised Land" has a bit of politicking to it, and it's at these points where the dialogue gets contrived, but the overall ideas that it brings up are worth bringing up and allow for a conversation to be had.
"Promised Land" is Arpke Approved at 4 out of 5 stars.
