Prometheus could have been "the Thinking Man's Avatar" but it quickly devolves into obscene brutality before reaching any potential philosophical heights.

With a dream team cast, flawless set of trailers and viral videos, and ofcourse Ridley Scott once again behind the helm of his own franchise, Prometheus was one of my most anticipated films of the year. But as the trailer fittingly describes, "a king has his reign and then he dies.".

Prometheus is astonishingly nihilistic with characters and scenes that are entirely pointless. Even the nature of the expedition is ridiculed by one of the crew members and the audience cannot help but to agree with him.

A lot of the characters act entirely inconsistent with their personalities, making frustratingly dumb and absurd decisions like in a campy horror flick.

The one saving grace is Michael Fassbender as the synthetic David who dominates the screen and delivers the best lines in the movie. He triggers some of the very few philosophical gems in this movie which has more in common with The Thing than Blade Runner.

There are a ton of plot holes which hint at being explained in a future sequel, but Prometheus cannot stand on its own with its essential plot points missing.

This Alien "prequel" is disappointing on all levels and as the myth of the titan Prometheus warns- you will be punished for your curiosity.
