I hadn't the slightest clue what was going on, but I appreciated immensely the once in a lifetime aspect of enjoying this movie on the big screen. I remember watching it (3 times) and thinking, each time, this movie is unlike anything I have ever seen, or probably will ever see.
I don't know why I liked it so much, probably for its serious, stern and ambitious and complex but small-scale style. Batman 3 can be described in the same way, although TDKR has more visual creativity.
