Review of Prometheus (2012) by Martin F — 17 Aug 2014
Totally different from its predecessors, but keeping the same elements that made "Alien" and "Aliens" so enthralling, "Prometheus" stands on its own as a thrilling sci-fi flick.
It is gruesome, terrifying, immersing, yet original while still harkening back to the classics. What makes this perhaps less exceptional than "Alien" and especially "Aliens" is that it doesn't have quite the same great cast.
As usual, Michael Fassbender stands out as the stoic android who seems to have ulterior motives. "Prometheus" is just part of a lengthening string of pictures that show his excellence and versatility as an actor.
Everyone else is effective, but they do not match the likes of Sigourney Weaver or Tom Sellick. Some obvious jump scares do not serve to hurt this quality film too much though. Give it a watch and you will probably like it more than you predict.
