Review of Prometheus (2012) by Jimmy S — 15 Jan 2014
Prometheus is an intriguing sci-fi film, marketed towards the "Alien" fan base. It shines in many places, especially through Michael Fassbender as the robot, David. He steals the show. The ideas put forth are mythodical and well rounded, except for the old "things coming out of people's abdomens" effect. You've been there, done that Ridley.
Mystery plays a huge role in movies. However, Prometheus is mysterious to a fault. Call it "holes" or "gaps" but the bottom line is that you are left confused when you should be left wondering. Prometheus is well worth a watch, but it will never be on the list of "Top 10 best sci-fi movies of all time". That says a lot considering the director, actors, and budget.
As a side note, Prometheus is a prime example of how previews are ruining movies at the expense of getting you in the seat. This is becoming more prevalent in today's marketing. Stop it Hollywood! Leave the good stuff for the theater. We're coming anyway...
