Review of Prometheus (2012) by J K — 28 Jan 2014

Ive been using RT for a long time now as my movie compass and this is the first time I've been compelled to write a review. Don't get me wrong, I consider myself a true movie-buff but nothing has got me passionate enough to contribute until now.

I don't know why some critics have smashed this film. I would argue it's actually very good, even excellent. Sure it doesn't answer all of the questions it and the Alien films raised but who cares? This is part of the mystery and that's a good thing as it allows audiences to use their imagination.

This will be one of the most talked about films of this season (if not the year) purely for its complexity. Visceral performances by Rapace, Fassbender and Elba reinforce what has to be a character driven script.

Even the performances of the supporting cast are disturbingly believable considering this is a Sci Fi film. Riddley Scott is known for his compelling story telling and creating visually awe-inspiring films.

However, with Promethius he won me over with the character development and the strength and intensity he sourced from his actors. For this; I tip my hat to you sir.I'm a fan of many genres and yes I'll admit I'm a fan of the first 2 Alien movies (and maybe even the 4th).

Having said that, I braced myself for this film, fully prepared to unleash my disappointment (even directly to Mr. Scott) if this was a wasted opportunity. It wasn't! If you're still reading I assure you, taking off the fanboy hat and speaking as a lover of film entertainment, Promethius is a great film.

Not just good but great! It does however require the audience to use their imagination and immerse themselves for 2 hours. I believe this is only a reasonable ask for any film of this genre. Do this and you will not regret the $15 (or so) you spent in the name of entertainment.

For Alien fans it's a must!
