Review of Prometheus (2012) by Pup C — 24 Apr 2015
I'm gonna skip all of the 'what did this mean?' stuff and get to the point. This movie is a smart and multi-layered addition to Alien. In short, its the 'thinking geek's' Alien.
I'd have given it 5 stars except for two reasons. First, Charlize Theron's character is TOO unlikable. To the point of hatred. That overshadowed her role and spoiled the movie. It would have helped immensely if the writers and directors would have added a few minutes of screen time showing the relationship between David and Meredith Vickers, and why she hated David and her father, Peter Weyland, and not relegated it to some page on the Prometheus website.
Its good to let the audience guess. But you shouldn't turn it into the mental version of a Rubik's Cube. That just killed the enjoyment factor for me. The other thing I did not like was the character Elizabeth Shaw.
She was far too presumptuous, far too dreamy. It was like having to put up with an overly-educated idiot, someone had not a lick of common sense. It irked me to the point that I didn't have any sympathy for character, and didn't care if she lived or died.
I merely tolerated her. Other than that, the movie was great.
