Review of Prometheus (2012) by Aidan M — 29 Jul 2015
When you compare it to Alien, you have a mediocre film that can never live up to the sci-fi classic of its predecessor. However, if you leave the film alone, you'll find that this is a truly epic sic-fi tale! I won't bore you with the details of the plot because I'm sure already, you've seen countless trailers and get the picture.
So I'll start with everything I liked. Once the first shot of the film comes on to the screen you will see how beautiful this film is. Every shot in the film is glorious and picture perfect. Whoever designed these alien worlds did a tremendous job.
Sometimes I found myself just staring at the picturesque scenery rather, than at the characters, which actually may not be a good thing. Another thing that I loved was the performances. Everyone was great, but two stood out.
Of course, you'll hear this over and over again, but Michael Fassbender was amazing in his performance of this android, robot, thing. He was so creepy, but interesting as well. As usual Charlize Theron was great! I loved her somber performance and although, some people may take her as evil, I found her just over protective and I was extremely upset when (spoiler) she died.
Ridley Scott did a great job, pacing the film where we were never bored, but we still had some character development and information scenes. I also loved, how Scott didn't give us everything. There were some moments where they jumped to tell us every detail, but then there were plenty of moments where we are left guessing on what exactly happened.
Although, there were good character developing scenes, I felt that we didn't care too much, about any of the crew except for the four major parts. The characters themselves were actually quite stupid for a group of scientists and I found myself feeling like I knew more than the characters, which is never a good thing when they are supposed to come off as smart.
But overall, Prometheus is an epic sic-fi experience with scenes that are gorgeous, while having scenes that will truly surprise you and terrify you. It deals with the creationism vs darwinism perfectly, and it will leave people talking for months to come.
They may explain little things too much, but there rate plenty of questions that will keep you guessing. If left alone, which you should do, Prometheus will blow your minds like it did the audience members at the midnight premiere.
When the film ended, it didn't receive and applause, but instead a simultaneous sigh, and then a "Wow" by everyone.
