Review of Prometheus (2012) by Isadore H — 18 May 2017
With a cast this talented in a franchise as legendary as this one paired up with the director who started the franchise with one of the greatest suspense film of all time, this is a must see on paper, and fortunately it is a very good film, though a little too ambitious at times.
Ridley Scott directs a very sleek looking picture, not a single shot seemed ugly or out of place. I loved Fassbender in this film, and though that Idris Elba gave a very unnoticed performance as well.
The scientist characters, while well acted, were plain idiots. I really enjoyed the feeling of something different from the other Alien films, while still sticking with what made the original great, a heightened sense of dread in every scene that culminated into something catastrophically horrifying for the characters.
There was some great scary imagery that never relied on jump scares or other cheap film tropes. My biggest problem with the film was that there was A LOT of unanswered questions, too many for me, and I'm usually okay with a sense of mystery after the credits roll, but there was a ton of new stuff introduced that I had no idea why or how it came about.
