Review of Prometheus (2012) by Mike S — 31 Jan 2016
An excellent visual design and a good performance by Michael Fassbender as an android cannot save this clunky SF flim. Set in the same narrative universe as director Ridley Scott's own film Alien, but set some 30 years earlier, this film is about a crew of researchers sent to a distant planet by a greedy, self-serving corporate CEO.
There is reason to suspect that ancient astronauts from this planet once visited Earth. There are too many inadequately explained back stories and too many plot threads, some of which don't seem to go anywhere.
Still, it does look really good, and reminded me that realistic-looking "hard SF" movies are few and far between these days.
