Review of Prom Night (2011) by Alyssa M — 25 Jul 2009
Wow, this movie made the original look awesome. How this can be called a remake I don't know. The only similarity between this film and the original Prom Night is that people are being murdered on Prom Night.
I like how the original had you thinking who the killer would be, and that the killer was getting back at certain people for what happens at the beginning of the film. In the original Prom Night, baring one victim, those that died sort of deserved it.
In the remake, we know who the killer is off the bat. He is a psycho stalker ex-teacher who is infatuated with one of his former students. He kills anyone who gets in the way of his girl. Does this sound familiar? It should.
It is the premise to almost every unoriginal slasher movie. I know in my review for the original, I complained that there wasn't enough focus on the slashing. Well, this movie has way too much. The body count was really high since all you had to do was say hi to the guy and he would kill you.
I would have rather of seen a straight forward update to the original Prom Night's story instead of this crappy thing. I just hope they don't try to make a sequel to this, unless it happens to be of Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2, which might actually be pretty cool.
