Review of Prom Night (2011) by Richard R — 31 Aug 2009
Ultimately disappointing and shockingly routine slasher movie in which a good-looking bunch of students find themselves under threat from an unknown assailant whilst trying to enjoy the biggest social night of their lives.
Apparently based on the 1980 film of the same, the new Prom Night is barely a reflection of it and has a completely different storyline. Young Donna has spent much of her life trying to overcome an early traumatic experience.
She sees her prom night as perhaps a turning point in her life where she has a chance to secure her boyfriend as a potential mate and enter adulthood as a university student with great ambition and heart.
She just wants what every young prom attendee wants from life. What she gets, though, is a nightmare experience orchestrated by an individual determined to get their hands on her. Nothing much to report here, nothing new certainly, other than how nice some of the girls looked in their dresses! Fans of The Wire will be able to spot some familiar faces.
Prom Night though is lacklustre at best and even hardcore fans of horror may find themselves in a 50/50 conundrum when deciding whether to spend 80 minutes.
