Review of Prom Night (2011) by Alyaa R — 12 Oct 2009
This is not a remake, this film has really nothing in common with the original Prom Night. The story is bleak and mild, surrounded by several cliche's and some dull performances. The only reason this film barely gets a fresh tomato by me is because they managed to get one thing right; sympathy for the characters. Twice in the film we see characters and their emotional response when they discover their loved ones dead. Also, another character is killed and when something cool happens for that character after their death, you feel sorry.
The editing for the film is outrageous; the film is rated PG-13, but some of the random cuts prove that the film was meant to be Rated R.
The worse part about the film is that the killer isn't scary, he's just nuts. I mean how is it he is able to do so much and get as far as he gets with not a scratch?
I don't know why this film was made, or why they named it after the film they named the film after, but they need to really step back and concentrate on the films they are remaking. The original film is not the best, but it holds up ok and could have been updated nicely, unfortunately no one wants to write that script.
2 out of 5.
