Review of Prom (2011) by Jen M — 06 Oct 2011
I'd looked forward to seeing "Prom" ever since I first heard about it. Even though I graduated from high school five years ago and didn't even go to my prom--and, no matter what anyone says, I'm glad I missed it, for reasons I won't divulge here--the whole premise of the movie seemed great.
Imagine my surprise when I actually started watching the DVD. Did I find it morally offensive? No way! However, a complete lack of profanities, sexual innuendoes, and graphically violent scenes doesn't automatically make a movie good.
I started watching this just to kill some time before having to go somewhere, and I ended up having to turn it in to the library. Was that just because it was due? Well, yes...but I didn't really regret not watching the entire thing.
It's a shame, because critics have said this was very DCOM-esque, and I have watched and enjoyed Disney Channel films such as "Twitches," "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam," "16 Wishes," and especially "Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars".
Unfortunately, "Prom" failed to deliver, and I wish I'd had a premonition about this movie like I did about my high school prom. Maybe, then, I wouldn't have wasted my time with it.
