Review of Prom (2011) by Amilcar A — 30 Apr 2011
Weddings, proms and graduations are the triumvirate of crappy events. Of course I might be the only person to think this but consider this: throwing a party over what are essentially choices or obligations sounds kinda stupid.
Alas, Prom was an accident since I actually wanted to see something else but it had already started.
It's your run of the mill, teenybopper lovefest where dreams come true and everyone is bubbly and happy.
What is actually good about prom is that given the cast (rather unknown bunch) the film somehow works. Instead of an army of leighton Meisters and Hayden Pannettieres the kids are normal, not that special and not rich (a prereq for most prom movies).
The kids are also not that annoying, none are criminals or have secret fight clubs. In fact some are reasonably normal.
Needless to say the whole thing is so scripted it's painful but only if you're a Palin you wouldn't know that.
Better than I expected and worthy of a matinee or cheap rental.
