Review of Prom (2011) by Manny C — 30 Aug 2011
John Hughes it ain't, but rarely are movies so unabashedly innocent these days, not to mention charming with a strong lean on corny. Prom has some good things going for it, namely its young cast.
Aimee Teegarden (Scream 4) is Nova Prescott, who has no date for the prom. In her quest for the perfect date she falls for dreamy bad boy Jesse Richter (Thomas McDonell) who loathes proms. But he's forced by fate (or Katie Wech's script) to join the prom planning committee. McDonell and Teegarden have an easy chemistry, and McDonell himself brings some welcome slyness to the proceedings. Ditto Nicholas Braun (Red State) as the typical nerd who is anything but. Prom just shouldn't have been a theatrical release. It goes down easy, which is why it would have made a better television movie.
