Review of Project X (2012) by Caesar B — 07 Oct 2012

Project X is a cinematic love-child -- NOT a pretty one -- from directors Nima Nourizadeh and Jonathan Kaplan. This is the story of four eternally uncool high school seniors -- Thomas, Costa, J.B. and Dax -- who cling to the lowest rung of their high school's social ladder.

All they really WANT to do is throw the house-party of a lifetime, win some respect from their peers and to be able to successfully fit in with the masses at their respective school (nevermind that they are late to the game)! Three of the cadre are front-and-center throughout the film as the fourth remains behind the camera so all of Project X will appear to be natural footage (yawn!).

One shouldn't be thinking much while watching this film as it is shoddy and unreliable and the whole thing felt like a waste of time. While most people want an underdog to succeed, the characters here are all so unlikeable that it is not the case with Project X.

At the party --which finally begins to liven up a good 45 minutes into the film -- the audience gets very few moments/scenes of the film's stars as they are undeniably boring.and their party is more-exciting elsewhere.

The partyguests have to rock themselves out with the film's pumping soundtrack and we are constantly reminded of how "cool" the four serial plotters are lest we forget. Project X is an odd film as we don't find ourselves rooting for anybody etc as the film reaches epic proportions.

The party AND the movie carry on and this is ALL the foursome have wanted -- someone other than the main four or their parents or siblings needed to tell them (one-and-all) they are beyond awesome -- needless to say: they are not too keen on honesty.
