Review of Project Nim (2011) by Dustin G — 14 Dec 2011
Surprisingly moving doc about a chimp raised to communicate through sign language with humans. As the chimp gets older and stronger he becomes less handleable and he is shipped from one environment to the next and so on.
Simple premise, but gifted director James Marsh tells the story well and you'll feel a host of conflicting feelings for Nim throughout the film, the biggest one being empathy. It's a hell of an entertainment and one of the best films of the year.
