Review of Project Nim (2011) by Sandy R — 10 Sep 2012
Captivating, occasionally funny but ultimately heart-wrenching documentary and a sad indictment of science practices. When man decides to play God it rarely turns out well. Nim, a chimpanzee raised from birth like a child during the 70s by a family and their very odd mother undergoes an educational experiment by a group of hippie scientists who teach it to sign.
Once the scientist scraps the experiment the chimp is discarded and it's psychical and emotional well being are put at risk. James Marsh follows up Man on Wire with another exceptional and fascinating documentary.
