Review of Project Nim (2011) by Aman A — 05 Feb 2013

This movie was almost too painful to watch. Nim the chimpanzee was raised as a human baby as a linguistics experiment. He learned to communicate with sign lanuguage, but as he grew bigger and into his "chimp-ness," his keepers abandoned the experiment, and Nim along with it.

What follows is a heartbreaking series of events that had me sobbing. Most of this was filmed, so there is a wealth of footage to tell the story. I gave it only 3 stars, though, because of the occasionally heavy-handed directorial flourishes and faceless reenactments.
