Review of Project Almanac (2015) by Nick B — 09 Apr 2015
I was really surprised by this movie - surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It is not the best time travel movie but it is very aware of your favorite ones. They even watch many of them for help and reference them to great effect.
It's a young and unknown cast and there is a lot of energy and the fast camera work you expect from a 'found footage' film. It's a film with a little of every genre. The best aspect of the movie is the trial and error in the creation of the time machine.
I had a nice laugh when they said they just needed to create some fusion energy to power the device. Even though you have seen some of this butterfly effect/ripples in time storytelling before, the time traveling aspects are done in a modern setting in new and interesting ways.
I could see the overall style and tone probably appealing to a younger audience, say 12 to 20-somethings, but this is an MTV Film after all.
