Review of Project Almanac (2015) by Barry T — 07 Jul 2015
Since The Blair Witch Project Hollywood started to experiment with the found footage format and except for some movies ( like V/H/S 2) failed miserably. ?t seem to many that this format is now slowly dieing because of lack of understanding in the format. To understand the format we should look at The Blair Witch:
In 1999 Haxan Pictures were nothing but a colleague project run by a group in a garage. Which gave them an advantage being unknown. And with a exeliant marketing campaign the movie got mainstream success being a small time horror blockbuster. Although the story was badly written and the acting was terrible usage of the format was thought to be brilliant by critics. After the success of the movie many producers and directors try to re do the effects in their own way. Which brought us in the end lots of low budget B movies.
Being another movie in this line Project Almanac fails miserably to bring the amount heaviness in its paradox plot. And the reason it fails is in it use of the format. If they have just used normal filmography this movie would have been have much successful with it's ratings. All in all although giving some promise for the YA crowd, Project Almanac is another waste of one hour forty eight minutes.
