Review of Project Almanac (2015) by Lawrence M — 30 Jan 2015
This film is similar in style and substance to the 2012 film by Josh Trank and Max Landis, Chronicle. It follows the activities of 5 teens, apparently so self-obsessed that they must record their every action, even when doing so seems detrimental to their goal.
We watch the film through the lens of their ever moving camera, which can be annoying. But their motives start out pure enough. They're recording for "science" of course, being the first to invent time travel.
They find out, in similar fashion as Ashton Kutcher did in The Butterfly Effect, that pure motives aren't always enough to avert disaster. Time travel has its own set of rules, and when not followed the traveler can unravel his whole world.
