Review of Professor Marston and the Wonder Women (2017) by Jonathan B — 18 Oct 2017
What a fascinating story and an impeccably done movie. I was so engrossed in the storyline and the characters. I wanted to study them all and study their relationship for hours and hours.
The themes and lessons of the movie were present and prevalent in every scene. woven beautifully into the film. complex characters who were shamelessly complex and diverse. Unafraid to be two opposite things at once. those make for the best characters.
I loved the use of DISC' theory as a way to study people and as a way to dictate the characters. I would love to see DISC used as an actors tool in a class.
The movie was never about wonder woman and it was never about DISC and it was never about polyamory. and that is exactly how I was able to take in the lessons of those things. it was about people living lives and trying to live their best life. wonderful movie.
Two minor minor minor thoughts:
1) Elizabeth came on a little strong in the beginning with the cursing to come off as a modern and divisive woman. we can learn that (and quickly) without layering it on in such a think and, what seemed to be, out of place/time.
2) there were two fade outs during the climax of the movie. there as a palate cleanser. it was the only time fade outs were used. and they were out of place and cheap. didnt need to them to move forward. didnt need them to take a breath.
