Review of Private Life (2018) by Gayathri N — 07 Oct 2018
SHRIVELED up eggs, lack of a testicle and a free spirited young adult, make up the frame of this heart wrenching movie. I was not impressed with this flick despite all the high ratings, and the high ratings was not the reason I watched it, it was on netflix, and it was convenient to hit the button on my remote, so I wasted about 2 hours enduring it.
It starts off great, you gain an inside into the lives of rachael and richard's life and find out their struggles. You start to really feel for them, emotionally and physically and you start to invest your time and feelings into the whole movie and wonder where it would lead.
And then bam! that's when you realise, the movie's actually ended, and you're pretty much back at the beginning where you started.
ANTICLIMACTIC is just an understatement to describe this entire flick. I personally hate watching these kind of stories where you're left to read between the lines or make up your own predictions or find the ARTISTRY behind some cinematic magic.
Sometimes, a movie is simply about story telling and offering a neatly packaged CONCLUSION ... and other times, you have something else. why would you invest all that time effort and money to produce something to leave your audience guessing, is something i'll never get.
And don't think I didn't understand the movie or its story, or couldn't see it for the "art" it offered. i've faced fertility issues and that's why I could relate so well to the characters, but the movie on an entertainment point of value, provided none of it to me.
