Review of Prisoners (2013) by Heath T — 23 May 2014
At first, I expected a somewhat formulaic who done it, but this film takes the characters in a different direction. There are villains, there are heroes, and some characters exhibit characteristics of both.
Jackman is riveting as the father of one of the missing girls. Gyllenhaal gives a subtle performance; he is equally likeable and unlikeable as the police officer investigating the case. Paul Dano gives an excellent performance as the prime suspect; I found him creepy and pitiful at the same time.
This movie is disturbing, but manages to hold your attention throughout.
