Review of Prisoners (2013) by Dan A — 28 Sep 2014
Denis Villeneuve is becoming one of my favourite directors and I've only started watching his stuff this weekend.
This is tense, engaging and just an overall GOOD film. Strong performances, good writing, cinematography etc. There's no faults in those terms in my opinion.
Can't give it more than 4 stars though because I didn't think Jake Gyllenhaal's character was particularly well developed, I didn't really get a feel for who he was or what's really going on with him outside of his job of being a detective. Also, I wouldn't say I saw the end coming or that I completely "sussed it", but nothing really surprised me when everything was revealed.
Other than that, top notch.
