Review of Prisoners (2013) by Tariq H — 17 Jun 2014
This suspenseful movie features a taut storyline full of suspense that is periodically interuppted by brutal and gut wrenching acts of violence. Glylenhaal's Detective Loki's cool and professional attitude to crime solving contrasts starkly with Hugh Jackman's Keller Dover, a man distraught by and driven to find his missing daughter.
In this dark and moody scenario, Director Denis Villeneuve explores the question of what actions parents will take trying to save their children, and what rationale they will use to justify those actions.
Villeneuve uses weather to accentuate the dark mood of the film well, and we find out how religion can be used to justify the most brutal acts. There is more than one twist to follow in the plot and at the end the conclusion may surprise you.
