Review of Prisoners (2013) by Jocey D — 17 Aug 2015
A grim and quite realistic interpretation of a sudden disturbance happening in small town life.
Prisoners is a gripping thriller that delivers an intense atmosphere leaving the outcome of the film unpredictable. The acts of some of the townsfolk to preserve their outward sanity fall into the realm of the grotesque.
The leaders of the magnificent cast are Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. Their presence adds another complex and emotional layer to an already nail-biting scenario. They represent different sides of justice- one abiding the written laws and the other following the individual's morality, the detective and the tormented father. When the forces meet picking a side is nearly impossible.
Interrogations, brutal acceptances, unexpected twists, all of them crack the boundaries of psychological warfare thus making Prisoners a certainly worth while spectacle.
