Review of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010) by Josh S — 09 Jan 2012
As Homer Simpson would exclaim loudly, 'Boring'! If you're thinking this would be a brainless but enjoyable enough film to kill a couple of spare hours with, then think again. Plot is diabolical, chemistry between cast non-existant, dialogue atrocious and acting diabolical.
Obviously hoping to replicate the success of 'Pirates of the Caribbean', Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films try to bring the same swashbuckling style of adventure and fail dismally. Indeed, characters seem to be almost 'stock' that could be planted into any historic fantasy/adventure to try raise laughs and gasps from the audience.
Same could be said about the dialogue. The film is based on the computer game series, indeed lots of the jumping over rooftops/swinging round ruins sequences have a 'game' feel. But just like so many other big screen adaptations of computer games, this one makes you wish you'd just stayed playing it at home rather than go see the movie.
