Review of Prince of Darkness (1987) by Luc L — 04 Oct 2012
One of Carpenter's strangest films and it is certainly one of his best looking visual pictures. The premise is interesting but it raises more questions than answers. Odd blend of horror, fantasy, black comedy and science fiction.
Some great performances, some solid dialogue here and there & awesome Carpenter score keeps this movie alive, even if it falls apart towards the end. Terrific Widescreen cinematography by Gary B. Kibbe (Who shot some of Carpenter's better movies like "In the Mouth of Madness" and "Vampires").
The movie gets a bit over the top, especially when Dun gets scared, when the son of darkness is awake. When he is trapped in a closet, getting scared, screaming, moving all over the closet is a hoot! Watch for Alice Cooper in a very small bit-part.
Which his manager was producing this one! It is actually well produced for a movie was made for 3 million dollars.
