If you are like me, you became a fan of David Gordon Green in the early 2000s--with master-work debuts "George Washington" and "All the Real Girls", you thought we might have a Southern Gothic, Terrance Malick-eque young filmmaker on our hands.

And then you marveled at his comic versatility with "Pineapple Express" and episodes of "Eastbound and Down." And then you went fetal when you saw his junky comedy the "sitter" and the totally worthless "Your Highness.

" Well, don't fret, the great DGG is back! Prince Avalanche is a masterpiece mixing nature, dialogue, comedy and drama. The best film I've ever seen during this streaming-movies-now-in-theaters cinema era.

It also proves that, even after a few underwhelming films ("Wanderlust", "Admissions", "This is 40") that Paul Rudd is a great and versatile actor who can dance the dance of drama and comedy, which his does to an Oscar-nom-worthy level here.

And Emile Hirsch, welcome back to the land of the living. There's also a wonderful, and unfortunately final, performance by the late, great character actor Lance DeGault. My favorite movie, so far, in 2013.
