Review of Prince Avalanche (2013) by Matt C — 19 Jan 2014
I watched this late Saturday night on Netflix with pretty nonexistent expectations since this totally flew under the theatrical radar, but I still feel like this is something that I'd like more, especially considering my love for indies.
It's cute at times but also feels strangely flat. It's beautiful but feels empty and almost pointless. The chemistry is pretty good and the performances are fine, but there still isn't much character, leaving the overall film to feel a bit slow, which is a problem when character is crucial.
The soundtrack is very good and gives a great tone, but it almost overtakes the actual human element. Don't get me wrong, it's not the music's fault, it's just that it highlights how lackluster the writing is, along with the overall experience.
Just watch Frances Ha instead. 6.5/10, okay, one thumb down, average, etc.
