Review of Primer (2004) by Kj H — 10 Jul 2012
Having been made by five people on a budget of seven thousand dollars Primer is a remarkable accomplishment. I would have given it five out of five it weren't for the story petering out and reaching its conclusion a little too quickly.
A great majority of people who watch Primer are totally fooled by it's pseudo-science and find the film completely perplexing. It's a great credit to Carruth's skills as a filmmaker that he manages to convey such a sense of realism in his work.
He's stated in interviews that he made the narrative deliberately disjointed to make events non-linear and the 'plot' difficult to understand, and STILL so many who watch the film feel they should understand it, and that the failure to do so is THEIR fault entirely.
The joke's on you.
