Review of Primer (2004) by Adam G — 13 Sep 2012
I'm pretty sure I would have enjoyed this film if I could have understood what the hell was happening. This is one of those movies that challenges the viewer and forces them to pay attention. You may understand or you may not.
In Primer's case, you probably will find it hard to follow after the first viewing. Everything is so cryptic and Carruth had no intention of simplifying it. A film like this would take a few viewings for me to completely comprehend the content; however, the problem with this is that I have no intention of ever watching it again.
On only a 7,000 dollar budget, I respect Carruth's effort. It looks great and it feels like a real movie, but it is just too complex to recommend to the average moviegoer. Hell, its probably too complex to recommend to the average math wiz.
Who knows?
