Review of Primer (2004) by Peter F — 08 May 2013
Those that just saw Upstream Color probably shouldn't be too surprised by Shane Carruth's debut film, Primer. The narrative is very obtuse, with almost all the dialogue being techno-babble, and the storyline constantly re-arranging itself.
It can be a maddening process to get a hold of the film, but the creative use of technology, and the alluring color scheme make the most of the film's microscopic budget. I personally preferred Upstream Color, but fans of cerebral sci-fi should get more out of this than I did.
