Review of Prime Evil (1988) by Steve M — 27 Jul 2006
Prime Evil.
Starring: William Beckwith, Christine Moore, Gary Warner, and Mavis Harris.
Director: Roberta Findlay.
A New York City-based group of immortal Satanists (who pose as a Catholic splinter-sect) are murdering, kidnapping and scrificing people to Satan left and right when their leader (Beckwith) decides the granddaughter of a member (Moore) is to be the next offering to their Dark Lord. Meanwhile, a devoted Catholic nun (Harris) goes undercover to expose the evil cult from within and a homicide detective (Warner) is tying the cult murders together.
"Prime Evil" is only slightly more unfocused than that summary sounds, but five times as boring. Every so often, there's a glimmer of what this movie could have been, but its swiftly overwhelmed by substandard acting, laughable dialogue, and badly staged scenes.
If you come across this film, let it be, unless you're looking for something to help you sleep. It's watchable, but it's one of the most uninteresting horror films I've come across.
