Review of Prime Cut (1972) by Kevin H — 09 Mar 2009
Its hard to remeber now but before films like Cops and Robbertsons and Fletch lives,Director Michael Ritchie made some really interesting film in the 1970s.
This film is no exception.
When Chicago gangster Lee Marvin (Excellent) is sent to reclaim an unpaid debt from Gene Hackman(suitably sleazy) he is drawn into a world of flophouses women auctioned like cattle and violent locals.
Ritchie manages to pack a hell of alot into 86mins including a wonderful opening sequence in a slaughter house,a shoot out at a country fair and a car destroyed by a combine harvester.
The film never flags and its one of Ritchies finest along with Smile and An Almost perfect affair.
One to be seen.
