Review of Primary Colors (1998) by Jimmy M — 18 Oct 2008
Mike Nichols's "barely-fictionalized" allegory of Clinton's presidential campaign, with a womanizing politician, his wife and his campaign people on a mission to win the Democratic nomination.
Clever, lightheartedly funny in it's first act, serious and a little tragic in its second one. I more or less preferred the film's first half but it still managed to work on a realistic and dramatic level despite the abrupt shift in tone.
The film is still a fine piece of work with an outstanding cast and a potency that still holds up, years later into these politically active times.
