Review of Primal Fear (1996) by Bryan W — 05 Jan 2009
Edward Norton is the reason to see this movie. Otherwise, it's a relatively fascinating courtroom drama. The thing about courtroom dramas is that the writing and setting always leaves the success of the film up to talent of the actors.
Laura Linney and Richard Gere butt heads with aplomb, but the greatest moments lie in the final act. I won't ruin it, but anyone watching is in for a humbling, satisfying treat. Again, Edward Norton rises above the pedestrian directing, elevating this material from cable recovery to a legitimate Oscar contender.
